Trenton & Erin's Proposal Story in Joshua Tree

How did you meet?

School

What is your love story?

Erin and I first met our sophomore year of college. We met through a mutual friend and immediately hit it off. We went on a couple dates, then I asked her to be my girlfriend about a month later. I feel like I knew Erin was “the one” since we first met, but what really solidified it is our perseverance through living almost 200 miles apart for 3 years. That was the true test, and we both love each other just as much as before during that time.

What made you choose this proposal destination?

I had previously visited Joshua Tree with my family about 4 years ago. It was absolutely beautiful and very peaceful. I knew she would love the park and I decided that was the place. Being her first time there, she was absolutely stunned at the beautiful rock formations and the thousands of Joshua Trees.

What is your proposal story?

We started the morning at Disneyland and decided we were going to head to Joshua Tree around 1:30 PM. Being a photographer myself, I had told Erin that I was going to set my camera up on a tripod and take some photos, that way I could make sure she was wearing something nice and I didn’t give away the surprise. I had the shoot scheduled for 4:30 PM and figured 3 hours would give us plenty of time to get there. Little did I know it would end up taking almost 4 hours! During that time I was driving through LA traffic with Erin in the passenger seat falling asleep. I had texted our photographer when we stopped to get gas to let him know we weren’t going to make it on time. Thankfully, he was incredibly accommodating! Once we got there, we only had about 45 minutes of sunlight left, so as soon as we got in position, I had to pop the question. It was extremely stressful, but in the end it all worked out perfect and we now have a hilarious story to tell!

Best tip for proposing in Joshua Tree

Definitely plan accordingly if you are travelled from or through LA. Traffic is extremely unpredictable. If it rains at all, don’t worry, the rain showers don’t tend to last very long and it will more than likely be gone by the time you are ready to propose. Also make sure you schedule it at a time where the sun isn’t high in the sky, as there isn’t much shade. Sunrise or sunset seem to be the best times for photos at the park.
