Often called Milan's best kept secret, Piazza Mercanti sits just steps from the bustle of the Duomo and yet feels like a completely different city. This intimate medieval square, largely overlooked by the crowds streaming past, is one of the oldest and most atmospheric corners of Milan, its Gothic and Renaissance buildings enclosing a space that has barely changed in centuries. The Palazzo della Ragione, the old covered loggia, and the worn cobblestones underfoot give the square a quiet, timeless quality that makes it an absolute joy to shoot in. Beautiful at any time of day, but truly magical in the soft morning light before the city wakes up.
